![]() ![]() JOSM permits reading and writing GPX files. Some of these only work on waypoints, so you may have to convert a track to waypoints and back (gpsbabel allows this). It provides filters (see using filters with GPSBabel). GPSBabel is a free Windows/Linux/MacOS desktop application for converting GPS traces between various data formats.GpsMaster is a free and open source Java desktop application for creating, viewing, editing and analysing GPX-files.to delete sections of data which have already been uploaded or are not relevant.compress a track to reduce the number of points and speed up uploading. To reduce the data volume, you may want to :.This allows more accurate tagging of the uploaded logs. For instance, separate the flight log and the bus trip from the airport. You may want to split your logs into parts depending on some criteria.speeds higher than 300 km/h lower than 1 km/h (values can be computed by gpsbabel).distance between trackpoints more than 500 m,.If the receiver produced implausible results:.Also, if you spent a while at some place, the resulting cloud of points is not that useful for mapping. You may want to remove points where your GPS receiver had poor reception (say you were inside a building). To improve the remove or correct bad data:.You may want to exclude the area around your house ( Using filters with GPSBabel shows how to do that with gpsbabel) and possibly modify the timestamps. This can give people a lot of information you don't want them to have. Your GPS tracks can reveal your exact address and show when you were where. In particular, don't edit the locations of trackpoints, just remove bad ones and split the tracks as required. OSM is interested in the raw data, so you shouldn't edit your tracks to match what you would like to see mapped. You should only upload raw data you collected yourself in the real world. If you followed the conversion step before now, the track log should be in GPX file format. We are also working on video tutorials for the main run-tracking apps that will at least help people navigate the export for the first time.Global Navigation Satellite System Tracelogįor a variety of reasons, you may want to edit a GPS track log before uploading it to OSM. We are considering adding the ability to create GPS tracks from within the app, which would eliminate the tedious export-import step. Please note that once you have exported your data it is very simple to get GPX File Editor to open it: either save it to iCloud and import it from within the app (if you have Documents and Desktop syncing enabled just save the file to your desktop) or send the file to yourself via Message, email or AirDrop. Thank you for your feedback! We agree that the flow for importing data from third party apps into GPX File Editor is a bit cumbersome right now, especially since a lot of the run/bike-tracking apps require you to export data through their websites. I look forward to seeing the functionality and features improve! It is a little tricky to get the a gpx file from Strava uploaded to GPXEditor but the tutorials provided were very helpful. This is the answer! You can add or remove points along your route and edit the timing to give a more accurate picture of your activity. I use Strava to track my runs and get so sad when I can’t edit my data. Thank you for your review! And thanks for the feature suggestions, all three have been added to our todo list. Runkeeper doesn’t honor those when uploading tracks not recorded with their app anyways so it is not a crucial feature for me, but for viewing in google earth it would be nice.Īlso not crucial: it would be nice to see track stats in the app. I was able to shift the times point-by-point though, which was a bit tedious.Īnother nice-to-have: right now this app merges tracks with multiple track segments into one track segment. One thing I wish this app had was an ability to shift the time for a whole lot of points all at once to cut out a break. With this app I had no trouble editing a 14 mile run, export the GPX file and replace the track I had originally created with Runkeeper. Runkeeper’s web editing tool craps out with longer runs and I can’t add “new” data points where I lost reception. I have been looking for a way to clean up my Runkeeper tracks. Finally!!! An app that lets me add waypoints. ![]()
